The Start of Counseling & Enrichment Center

The Executive Director of Counseling & Enrichment Center, Jacquelyn E. Meyer, knows first hand about the power of prayer and the need for loving foster parents.

As a child of ten years of age, her parents had reached a decision to sell the family farm. She was devastated. How could her parents sell their dairy farm? Where would they go? She loved that farm and the cows!

On her way to school that day, she prayed for God to send her a brother. She felt that if she had a brother, it would mean having more help on the farm and just maybe they would be able to stay. She could not have known the impact her prayer would have on her life.

That very day, her parents were asked to raise two foster children, both boys. Not only would they stay on the farm for many years but it was the foundation for an idea that would change the lives of many.

Counseling & Enrichment Center and Building Blocks for Community Enrichment

Jackie realized there were many children who were removed from their homes and placed into foster care, only to move again, and again. She saw a need and started the Building Blocks program, an agency-based foster care program. Her goal was to support the children in these homes, most of whom had Attachment Disorders, and to also provide the caregivers with the tools they would need to help these children grow into productive adults.

The Counseling and Enrichment Center was designed to do just that.  Our therapists are trained to help even the most traumatized children and adults make sense of their life.

What started many years ago as a journey to save a farm, is now a common goal of our therapists, to rebuild and strengthen family bonds.

Our Philosophy

At Counseling & Enrichment Center, we understand the many pressures facing today’s individuals and families.  We believe that our clients are the experts on the issues confronting them.  We listen to our clients and help them develop the skills needed to effectively meet those challenges.

We further believe that the individual, family, environment, job, school and community are interrelated.  Therefore, we assess functioning in all of these areas in order to determine the most effective treatment options.  We believe that stronger families create stronger communities—placing fewer children, individuals and families at risk.

Our Mission

The Counseling & Enrichment Center is guided by its commitment to children, families, individuals, and community.  We strive to strengthen each by offering the education, counseling and supportive services needed to better meet the challenges of everyday life.
